F Ulrich Hartl, (Director, Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Martinsried) took his Vallee Visiting Professorship sabbatical at Stanford University in September/October, where he was hosted in the Department of Genetics by Dr Judith Frydman, a world leader in the field of chaperone-assisted protein folding and cellular protein quality control.

“This has been an extremely rich and rewarding experience, both scientifically and socially. I am now looking forward to bringing to fruition some of the new ideas that were formed in the numerous discussions with colleagues and to begin working on collaborative projects.  If there is only one regret, it is that the time in California passed too quickly.”
